Graphic Design Intern

Internship: Unpaid
Accepting applicants for Winter/Spring & Summer

The Milwaukee Art Museum is seeking a highly creative and talented junior or senior year student majoring in graphic design to get hands-on experience in creating real-time deliverables for university credit (where available with participating schools).

General Purpose: Provide production support to the Museum designers in producing leading-edge print and Internet-based materials. The materials created are for all areas of visual communication representing the Museum, including exhibition and program graphics, short-term exhibition branding programs, advertisements, web banners, museum brochures, and the Member magazine. Maintain the Museum brand across all materials. Assist in the layout and design of marketing and exhibition pieces. Make design and type corrections to these materials. Collect files when jobs are finished.

This is an opportunity to understand what it takes to concept, design, and layout design pieces from beginning to end, and to see how the creative department works with marketing and other departments to complete a job. You will learn how to prioritize jobs according to deadlines.

Education/Experience Requirements: Senior in college majoring in Art/Design. Skilled in design software, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, web applications.

Other Requirements: Portfolio of work.

Duties & Responsibilities: Work with Museum designers to produce a wide variety of internal and external Museum materials, from entire marketing campaigns (advertisements, rack cards, banners, media kits) to exhibition signage and graphics. Responsible, specifically, for labels for the Collection Galleries, PowerPoint presentations, visitor screens, and materials for Education, Visitor Services, Public Programs, Scholastic, and Lakefront Festival of Arts. Requires knowledge of printing processes. Must remain current on design production software.
