Facebook is seeking a Strategic Engineering Mechanical Engineer experienced in the design, construction and operations of Critical Facilities to become part of our Data Center Strategic Engineering team. Our data centers are the foundation upon which our software operates with efficient ease. Building and operating data centers the "right" way from the day they go live is synonymous with ensuring capacity availability and capital conservatism. The Facebook Data Center Strategic Engineering team endeavors to be the benchmark of innovation for the data center industry and improve reliability, safety and efficiency through innovative solutions, enabling Infrastructure teams to excel in achieving their goals. This position is full-time and located in our Fremont office.

  • Develop new data center infrastructure solutions and building technologies to improve reliability, efficiency, speed to market and cost
  • Lead and develop proof of concept projects to evaluate the benefits and feasibility of the solution for broader deployment
  • Cross-functional collaboration with other Facebook teams including Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Network Engineering, Construction, and Facilities Operations
  • Develop strong industry relationships with other data center peers remaining current on industry trends and influence technology development
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally to future and existing data center sites and meeting with partners
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum of four (4) years professional experience in critical systems HVAC, construction, operations, and maintenance
  • Proficiency of critical facility cooling systems: HVAC systems, AHU units (DX, split, RTU, CRAC, etc.), Chilled Water Systems, Condenser Water Systems, Pump controls, Raised Floor Systems, hot/cold aisle containment, and Building Management Systems
  • Functional knowledge of building systems including electrical and architectural systems
  • Experience with new builds, retrofits, and operational facilities
  • Working knowledge of industry standards, building codes and safety standards including NEC, ASHRAE, NETA, ANSI, IEEE, NFPA, UL, UFC and UBC
  • Working knowledge of international industry standards including IEC and CE
  • Familiar with construction and cost estimating process
  • Troubleshooting and analytical skills
  • Effective presentation communication skills
  • Professional Engineer registration
  • Utility negotiation and connection experience
  • Campus design and master planning experience
  • Large complex system design experience, including dependent software, hardware, and facilities
