Position Summary

The Associate, Recruitment and Outreach lays the foundation of the Teach For India movement by sourcing the most outstanding college graduates and working professionals, and informing, investing and inspiring them to join the Fellowship Program. The Associates build the brand of Teach For India nationally by representing our organisation at premier institutions in the country, and play a key role in building enduring partnerships with them. The Recruiter sets the vision and strategy for Fellowship Recruitment and branding in the portfolio. Most importantly, they provide continuous support to prospective Fellows and empower them with the skills, knowledge and mindsets to be prepared for the start of their Fellowship journey.

At its soul, the role revolves around changing mindsets in this country and, as such, presents tremendous opportunity to build leadership and management skills in a fast-paced, results-driven, and challenging team.   

Team Overview

The Recruitment team is not just the face, but also the heart of Teach For India. The Recruitment team advocates and fights to get the greatest leaders into our classrooms to ensure Teach For India’s continued and multiplied impact on Indian education. The team’s work is at the core of building our movement. 

The Fellowship Recruitment team is responsible for  building the Teach For India brand nationally, regionally, and within colleges and corporates to attract the best talent in India. Last year, we received over 14,000 applications and recruited 634 Fellows for the movement. As one of the most external facing teams, we build the brand of Teach For India nationally through engagement with the top institutions of the country, media partnerships, branding and promotion campaigns, and by creating strong champions for the movement. We provide avenues for prospective applicants to meet with Fellows, Staff and students, and we meet with corporate and college stakeholders to invest them in the movement. We engage with the city teams in order to ensure that the organisation acts as one team in our mission to find our movement of leaders who will eliminate educational inequity and ensure that all children attain an excellent vision.


  1. Setting a compelling vision and ambitious strategy and goal for the portfolio, rooted in Teach For India’s current reality. The role would include capturing and investigating in-depth data and evidence to analyse trends, monitoring progress to goals, and adapting and iterating on strategies in the region.
  2. Building and managing partnerships with a wide range of internal and high level external stakeholders such as heads of colleges and corporates, and create networks in the region that will help the Recruitment team year on year.
  3. Creating and executing engagement campaigns with top institutions to source the highest quality candidates for the portfolio, which includes making inspiring presentations to large audiences 
  4. Effectively managing between 20-30 “Campaign Leaders” based in universities and workplaces across the region.  
  5. Creating avenues and opportunities to inspire and influence potential candidates to join our movement by sharing stories from our classrooms and Alums through emails, conversations and interactive sessions

Competencies and Abilities

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills in English (incl. public-speaking and presentation skills) : ability to effectively interface with multiple audiences, internal teams and stakeholders while presenting complex ideas clearly and in an engaging manner
  • Strategic and critical thinking skills - Proficiency in analyzing large data-sets and making inferences to drive strategies and decisions
  • Excellent project planning and project and people management skills
  • Goal driven with a focus on setting clear expectations and detailed follow up
  • Strong planning skills
  • Sharp focus on execution
  • Ability to travel extensively (intra and inter-city) and adopt flexible timings (especially during “cycle season” from July-Feb)

Education and Experience

  • 0-2 years of work experience
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment and is sensitive to the diversity of our target population
  • Experience working in a deadline-sensitive, target-driven environment with a focus on professionalism: ability to keep himself/herself calm during high-stress periods
  • Experience as a Teach For India Fellow (Not required, but strongly desired)
