Microsoft Research has been studying quantum computing for several years and has become the world center of expertise on topological quantum computing. We are on the cusp of an accelerated effort in quantum computing and this position is an opportunity to get in at the start of this new intense phase. The research effort includes a staff of theoretical physicists and experimental teams around the world. Our Sydney lab is looking for an experienced Semiconductor Device Model Engineer with a desire to work closely with experimental physicists to drive cutting edge research in quantum science.

 

 

Responsibilities

In this role you will drive an effort to deliver cryogenic electronic solutions for controlling scaled-up quantum systems. Using your experience of microelectronics parameter extraction and device characterization, you will build software models that enable the design of complex cryogenic CMOS circuits. The position will blend laboratory work in device characterization at cryogenic temperatures using a suite of sophisticated test and measurement equipment with software modeling based on tools such as Cadence, Silvaco, BSIM and other TCAD tools. You will interact closely with other quantum engineers, ASIC engineers, and developers in Sydney.   Qualifications required:   Deep experience in device characterization and modelling using industry standard tools and packages.   Experience with device parameter extraction using custom electrical test setups and packages.   Experience with utilizing parameter analyzers, network analyzers, and wafer probe stations.  

Qualifications

Experience with device modelling tools, eg, BSIM, Silvaco and other TCAD tools.   Experience building Process Design Kits (PDKs) for use with Candence tools.   Demonstrated ability to work in a team.   Expected travel is up to 10%   Critical thinking, intellectual curiosity, strong track record of structuring and solving complex problems   Superior verbal, visual, and written communication skills   A willingness to learn, share, and improve   Demonstrated strong performance in prior roles, with increasing levels of responsibility and independence Desirable qualifications:   Familiarity with infrastructure for cryogenic temperatures   Some understanding of quantum effects in devices   Experience with capacitance extraction and device design.
