Thomson Reuters Special Services (TRSS) brings leading data sets and expert insight to intelligence challenges. Our customers include worldwide defense organizations and their private partners. Each summer, TRSS offers ambitious students an opportunity to enhance their professional skills and make a difference in global security. The internship program includes training with TRSS’s unique resources, data science applications, and close collaboration with senior subject matter experts.

During a 12-week internship all interns will complete an independent research project, with the assistance of specially selected mentors at TRSS. The research project will be presented to the company and senior leadership at the end of the 12-week period. In addition to their research work, interns will contribute to other elements of TRSS’s intelligence, law enforcement, and due diligence missions. These duties typically involve assisting with analysis, reporting on data from a range of sources, developing incident briefs and threat assessments, and conducting open source research.

• Conduct research for intelligence and law enforcement-based applications (e.g. predictive analysis, trends, forecasting, and early warnings).
• Examine sources and create summaries of pertinent data.
• Contribute to TRSS’s work in areas such as open source research, proprietary datasets, foreign language resources, and international and domestic crime and law enforcement.
Individuals with a strong technical background are encouraged to apply. Technical interns will contribute to TRSS’s data science, product development, and integrated technology departments. Their duties may include writing scripts to automate analytic processes and creating applications to assist analysts in completing assessments. Students with knowledge of statistical techniques or graph-based visual analytic software may have an opportunity to work on special projects.

• Applicants must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program pursuing a related degree at an accredited college or university.
• Minimum GPA of 3.2
• Student must be 18 years old, meet the same employment standards as permanent employees, and be able to provide his/her own transportation.

Knowledge and Skills:
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and meet deadlines
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability and experience developing formal presentations in a professional manner
• Intermediate to advanced proficiency with MS Office suite
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality with sensitive information
• Foreign language skills desirable

• Monday - Friday, 20-40 hours a week
• 12+ week internship (May-Sept)
