The Graphics Data & Intelligence team, in the Azure Core OS & Intelligent Edge (COSINE) group is looking for a Software Engineer to help us build upon the vision of Windows as a service by harnessing big data, telemetry, and analytics to drive insights, influence strategy, and bring enhancements to the platform. As a Software Engineer in the team, you will work closely with other Software Engineers and Program Managers for your feature areas to build, deliver, monitor, and service great features. You will employ cloud services, data visualizations, clustering, machine learning, and other techniques to provide insights into our data and enable world-class experiences our customers. Working knowledge of data science in general is beneficial for this role but not required.

 

The ideal candidate brings some experience with and a genuine interest for big data and analytics, as well as a passion for graphics on personal computers, devices, and consoles. In this role, you will be contributing to the design, development, data processing, and data analysis from a wide range of scenarios, applications, and devices running on Microsoft operating systems and components. The types of challenges you’ll face include data modeling and visualization, data schema design, design and development of product instrumentation and telemetry, data analysis at large scale, and machine learning, all aimed at generating insights and improving the quality of scenarios and experiences enabled by the team. The ideal candidate should demonstrate creativity, passion for delighting customers, and solid collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Define, monitor and report on critical data points required to deliver high quality customer scenarios
• Work within scenario teams to help prioritize product measures and goals
• Provide critical customer data and view to help quantify and prioritize customer impacting issues
• Track and follow customer sentiment and report back trends to the scenario team to help drive business goal
• Work with large data coming from multiple OS versions and multiple device types (Windows, Xbox, etc)

Qualifications

Required qualifications:

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics or a related engineering discipline
  • 2+ years of programming experience, and skills in relevant programing languages such as Java, C++, C, and/or C#.

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with databases, SQL, IScope, data warehousing, data mining, machine learning, distributed storage, and computation platforms such as Hadoop, Spark, or Cosmos, are highly desirable.
  • Ability to bring broad product, customer, and market context into data studies.
  • Strong passion for delivering compelling, high quality consumer experiences.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with excellent interpersonal communication and collaboration skills.
  • Willingness and desire to learn and adapt to new technologies and engineering processes quickly.

 

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
