Los Angeles Los Angeles Overview

Overview

"I love Los Angeles. It reinvents itself every two days." Billy Connolly

Dynamic Los Angeles is America’s second city, but to residents it’s the center of the universe. Usually referred to by its initials or by one of its cheeky nicknames—The City of Angels, La-La Land, Tehrangeles—Los Angeles’ is a vast cultural melting pot consisting of a wide array of “towns,” like Koreatown, Filipinotown, and above all Tinseltown!

Los Angeles
Founded by a Spanish governor in 1781, Los Angeles was a part of Mexico for almost 30 years until the early 1800s. Today, L.A. is a global center for business, trade, culture, fashion, sports, media, and research. Not to mention the world capital of the entertainment industry.

Los Angeles can be anything you make of it. All you have to do is find the area that suits you best. West Hollywood is a networking hub and high-energy social scene, whereas the Westside is the center of health-consciousness and eco-friendliness. Glitzy Beverly Hills, on the other hand, is a family-focused suburb with giant houses, high-end shops and a beautiful library.

Think of Los Angeles as a quilt, comprised of countless urban centers and suburban neighborhoods, each with a unique culture and atmosphere. The only common denominator is the Southern California sun! With endless days of sunshine and countless ways to stay occupied, it’s no wonder so many Angelenos are out-of-towners—Los Angeles is a place anyone can make home.
